Scott Blank

Director Architecture and Engineering

Scott graduated with a BS in architectural studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1985, and later returned to school to earn his Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota. After school Scott worked for various architectural firms in Wisconsin and Minnesota before joining Store Design Services in 1995. Scott is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), and is a Certified Construction Documents Technologist (CDT). Scott's designs have been featured in such publications as Store Equipment and Design, Grocery Headquarters, and Architecture Minnesota. Past achievements include receiving the AIA Religious Art and Architecture award for his work at the Corpus Christi Catholic church in Roseville, MN.

In his free time Scott enjoys cycling, hiking, and hockey. He has also participated in several volunteer activities, including Habitat for Humanity, the AIA Minnesota Housing Advocacy Search for Shelter initiative, and has served as a member of the Art and Environment Committee for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Archdiocese. Scott's favorite television show is Entourage, and for movies he enjoys action flicks such as Man on Fire and The Edge.

Scott says he has two favorite architectural styles. "In a residential context, I really enjoy the Prairie/craftsman style. It employs a comfortable, casual feel to it that suits the notions of hearth, home, and family at the appropriate scale. In civic architecture I admire the planar nature of the Early Modern style, with its emphasis on the interplay between horizontal and vertical elements."

Some of Scott's favorite built environments include the Town Hall in Hilversum, Denmark, the Park Meadows mall in Denver, Colorado, and for experiential design the numerous structures along the famous Las Vegas strip.
